Planning estimate, not engineering advice. Confirm site measurements and product specifications. Calculation limits.

Flooring package quantity is calculated from room area, product-label package coverage, and an explicit cut or pattern waste allowance.

  1. Measure finished room length and width.
  2. Enter the coverage printed on the actual product package.
  3. Increase waste for diagonal layouts, patterns, off-square rooms, or future repair stock.

Add your project costs

Enter supplier prices and any labour, equipment or delivery costs. Pick a currency — badges, inputs, and totals follow.

Costs use the carton or square-foot rate you type. Construclytic does not fetch store prices. Underlayment, grout, thinset and labour stay companion lines.

How this calculator works

A transparent flooring material takeoff.

Flooring package quantity is calculated from room area, product-label package coverage, and an explicit cut or pattern waste allowance.

Flooring packages use the selected product’s coverage, then waste. A 20 m² carton and a 20 ft² carton are not interchangeable — the unit on the input is the unit you buy.

Worked example. Example: an 18 ft × 14 ft room is 252 ft². With 10% waste and 20 ft² per package, the calculation rounds to the next whole package.

This separate example uses the calculator's starting values in imperial units. It stays unchanged when you edit the tool above. Example rates, yields and dimensions are assumptions, not recommendations for your project.

Use the labelled units above when reproducing this example. To work in metric, switch the calculator to Metric; applicable measurements are converted, while product-specific units remain labelled.

  1. 1. Measure finished room length and width.
  2. 2. Enter the coverage printed on the actual product package.
  3. 3. Increase waste for diagonal layouts, patterns, off-square rooms, or future repair stock.

Field notes that change the number

  • Measure net floor after cabinets you will not cover, or leave them in if you want extra.
  • Herringbone and diagonal layouts need a higher waste than a straight stack.
  • Underlayment, transitions and reducers are extras.

Common mistakes

  • Ordering cartons from room area with no waste line.
  • Using a US carton coverage on a metric product without switching units.
  • Assuming leftover boxes from another SKU will match dye lot.

Questions

Questions about flooring material

Should I use net or gross room area?

Begin with finished floor area, then decide whether permanent islands, closets, and other exclusions need adjustment.

Why round packages?

Flooring is normally purchased by whole boxes or packages, not partial coverage.
