This calculator turns a landscape bed's finished dimensions into a transparent bulk-soil volume with a visible settling and grading allowance.
LAND-SOIL-001 is area × depth, then a compaction/settlement allowance, then a supplier increment. Topsoil, fill and screened loam do not share a density. Formula ID stays on the ticket so a later estimator can change depth.
Worked example. Example: a 12 ft × 10 ft bed at 6 in depth contains about 2.22 yd³ of net soil. With a 10% allowance, the order rounds to 2.5 yd³.

Field notes that change the number
- Depth is installed depth after settlement unless you say otherwise.
- Beds with edging are rectangles; berms are extra prisms.
- GCC quarries sell cubic metres — switch units rather than converting a US yard after the fact.
Common mistakes
- Using decorative-stone density on screened topsoil.
- Forgetting compaction on a fill lift.
- Treating this as a geotech spec.
In Qatar and the wider GCC, bulk soil is usually a cubic-metre ticket. Switch the calculator to metric.
