This calculator divides a rectangular patio area by the face coverage of one paver and rounds to a whole-paver purchase quantity after a stated allowance.
Paver counts use the selected paver face, then waste. Herringbone and 45° layouts need more cuts than a stack bond. Base and polymeric sand are companion takeoffs.
Worked example. Example: a 12 ft × 10 ft patio uses 4 in × 8 in pavers. The base quantity is 540 pavers; with 10% waste, the order rounds to 594 pavers.

Field notes that change the number
- Net area after beds and edges you will not pave.
- Border courses are a different paver more often than not.
- Compaction of the base is a gravel/paver-base line, not extra pavers.

Does the calculator include base material or sand?
No. Add base, bedding sand, edge restraint and jointing material as separate estimate lines.
Why are pavers rounded up?
Pavers are purchased as whole pieces and field cuts can require spares; the allowance remains visible before rounding.
