A transparent ridge cap calculator takeoff.
This calculator converts measured ridge and hip length into whole hip-and-ridge bundles using the selected bundle's linear coverage and a visible cut allowance.
Worked example. Example: a 30 ft ridge plus 40 ft of hips is 70 ft. With 10% waste and 20 ft per bundle, the order rounds to 4 bundles.
- 1. Measure ridge length and add every hip run that receives the same cap.
- 2. Enter usable coverage from the selected hip-and-ridge bundle, not a field shingle bundle.
- 3. Confirm starter pieces, ridge vents and hip cuts separately.

Can I cut field shingles instead?
Some roofs use cut-up field shingles. Enter the actual linear coverage you will get from that method; it is not the same as a dedicated cap bundle.
Does this include starter or drip edge?
No. Starter, drip edge, flashing and ventilation are separate takeoffs.
