How this calculator works

A transparent wheelchair ramp takeoff.

Ramp run equals total rise times the slope ratio (12 for a 1:12 planning slope). Slope percent is 100 ÷ ratio. This is geometry for a material and landing sketch, not an accessibility approval.

Worked example. Example: a 24 in rise at 1:12 needs 24 ft of run. At 3 ft wide the walking surface is 72 ft². A 1:12 slope is 8.33%.
  1. 1. Measure the finished floor-to-floor rise, including any threshold.
  2. 2. Enter 12 for a 1:12 planning slope unless the job calls for a gentler ratio.
  3. 3. Landings, handrails and edge protection are extra — this tool does not place them.

Is this ADA compliant?

No. Construclytic is not an accessibility inspector. 1:12 and 36 in width are common planning figures. Confirm the applicable standard, landings and handrails before you build.

What about switchbacks?

A long run may need a landing every 30 ft of run under common rules. Split the rise and add landing area as its own line.
