How this calculator works

A transparent shiplap takeoff.

Count boards across the wall from the exposed face after overlap, then multiply by pieces per course from wall height and stock length, with a visible cutting allowance before whole-board rounding.

Worked example. Example: a 12 ft wall of 5.25 in exposed 1×6 at 8 ft high, 8 ft stock and 10% waste rounds to 31 boards.
  1. 1. Measure the wall width the boards run across, not the room perimeter unless every wall is the same.
  2. 2. Enter the exposed face after the rabbet, not the nominal 1×6.
  3. 3. Openings can sit in waste on an accent wall, or as door and window deductions on a full-room clad.

Nominal 1×6 or exposed 5.25 in?

The takeoff uses the visible face after overlap. A 1×6 shiplap is often about 5.0–5.25 in exposed. Measure a board if you have one.

Does this include trim?

No. Inside corners, outside corners and a finish cap are separate linear lines.
