Planning rates only. Pick a currency — badges, inputs, and totals follow. Material is a rate. Labour is hours × a planning hourly rate. Equipment and delivery are this-job amounts.

Planning defaults are office figures, not a bid. US ready-mix in 2026 often lands around $125–165 per cubic yard delivered; place-and-finish commonly $2–4 per square foot. Replace every rate with a supplier or crew quote before you send the letter.

How this calculator works

A transparent crown molding takeoff.

Crown runs the full ceiling perimeter — it does not stop at doors — then a higher waste factor covers coped inside corners before whole-stick rounding.

Worked example. Example: a 16 × 12 ft room is 56 ft of crown. With 15% waste that is 64.4 ft, which rounds to 5 sticks of 16 ft molding.
  1. 1. Measure the ceiling perimeter. Do not deduct doors unless the design stops the crown at an opening.
  2. 2. Use a longer stick than the longest wall when you can, so you scarf less in the field.
  3. 3. Cope insides, miter outsides. The extra 15% is for those cuts, not for a second room.

Questions

Questions about crown molding

Why more waste than baseboard?

Coped joints and compound miters throw away more offcut than a simple base scarf. 15% is a planning figure, not a mill rule.

Vaulted ceilings?

This tool is a level-perimeter takeoff. Rake walls need their own measured run.

What is the formula ID?

This calculator publishes formula LBR-CRN-001, version 1.0.0. The ID stays on the result and on the estimate line.

Is this engineering advice?

No. Construclytic is a planning website, not a registered engineering or contracting firm. Field checks, codes and product data still sit with you.

Does Construclytic fetch live supplier prices?

No. Costs use the rate you enter. Construclytic does not fetch live supplier prices.
