This calculator returns driveway slab volume, waste and a rounded ready-mix order from length, width and thickness. Formula CONC-DRIVE-001 v1.1.0. Base, mesh and joints stay separate lines. Drop the yards into an estimate. It does not size the slab.

  1. Measure the finished driveway length and average width.
  2. Enter thickness from the approved project requirements.
  3. Use the rounded ready-mix quantity as a starting point for a supplier quote.

Metric example — 9 × 3.6 m drive. A 9 × 3.6 m driveway at 100 mm with 10% waste orders 3.6 m³.

  1. Volume method. Length × width × depth, or cylinder volume for holes. Ready-mix is still ordered by volume. Concrete Network — volume calculation guidance

Add your project costs

Enter supplier prices and any labour, equipment or delivery costs. Pick a currency — badges, inputs, and totals follow.

Enter your supplier’s ready-mix concrete rate in the selected unit. Add delivery, pumping, short-load fees and placing labour as separate project costs. For GCC projects, select QAR, AED, SAR, KWD, OMR or BHD and enter local supplier rates.

How this calculator works

A transparent concrete driveway takeoff.

Use finished driveway dimensions and specified thickness to estimate concrete volume before a ready-mix purchase allowance is applied.

A driveway takeoff is thickness plus the real width, not a 4 in patio default. Reinforcement, base and control joints stay off this volume line on purpose.

Worked example. Example: a 30 ft × 12 ft driveway at 5 in depth contains about 5.56 yd³ before allowance; the tool rounds the 10% order to 6.25 yd³.

Use the labelled units above when reproducing this example. To work in metric, switch the calculator to Metric; applicable measurements are converted, while product-specific units remain labelled.

  1. 1. Measure the finished driveway length and average width.
  2. 2. Enter thickness from the approved project requirements.
  3. 3. Use the rounded ready-mix quantity as a starting point for a supplier quote.

Field notes that change the number

  • Residential drives are often 4–6 in. Confirm the spec; this page does not pick it.
  • Flares, aprons and sidewalk crossings are separate rectangles.
  • Base rock is a gravel takeoff, not extra concrete.

Common mistakes

  • Using interior-slab 4 in thickness on a vehicle drive.
  • Averaging a tapering width instead of splitting the flare.
  • Hiding wire mesh or rebar in the yard price.

Questions

Questions about concrete driveway

Does this set driveway thickness?

No. Thickness, reinforcement, base, drainage and local requirements must be independently verified.

Does it deduct irregular sections?

Use average width for a simple preliminary estimate, or divide complex geometry into separate sections.

How much concrete for a 30x12 driveway?

A 30 × 12 ft drive at 5 in with 10% waste orders 6.25 yd³. Base, mesh and joints stay separate lines.

Is 4 inches thick enough for a driveway?

Often 4–6 in. This tool does not size the slab. Thickness comes from the approved design and local practice.

What is the formula ID?

This concrete driveway calculator publishes formula CONC-DRIVE-001, version 1.1.0. The ID stays on the result and on the estimate line.
