How this calculator works
This calculator divides a rectangular patio area by the face coverage of one paver and rounds to a whole-paver purchase quantity after a stated allowance.
- Measure the finished paved area and break complex geometry into rectangles where practical.
- Enter the face length and width of the selected paver rather than nominal package dimensions.
- Increase waste for diagonal, herringbone or other cut-heavy patterns and verify supplier packaging.
Worked example: Example: a 12 ft × 10 ft patio uses 4 in × 8 in pavers. The base quantity is 540 pavers; with 10% waste, the order rounds to 594 pavers.
Assumptions and limitations
- The patio is treated as a rectangle and pavers are treated as a single face size.
- Waste is applied before whole-paver rounding.
- Base material, bedding sand, edge restraint and jointing material are excluded.
Common questions
- Does the calculator include base material or sand?
- No. Add base, bedding sand, edge restraint and jointing material as separate estimate lines.
- Why are pavers rounded up?
- Pavers are purchased as whole pieces and field cuts can require spares; the allowance remains visible before rounding.
