Concrete calculator

Concrete driveway

Driveway volume, ready-mix order and bag-equivalent estimate with visible allowance.

Calculator result and formula

Ready-mix order: 6.25 yd³

Formula: L × W × D × quantity ÷ 27 × (1 + waste) → ready-mix order

Formula ID: CONC-DRIVE-001 · Version 1.0.0.

Inputs

  • Driveway length: Finished driveway length Default: 30.
  • Driveway width: Average finished driveway width Default: 12.
  • Concrete depth: Specified finished slab thickness Default: 5.
  • Waste factor: Allowance for placement, spill and field variation Default: 10.

How this calculator works

Use finished driveway dimensions and specified thickness to estimate concrete volume before a ready-mix purchase allowance is applied.

  1. Measure the finished driveway length and average width.
  2. Enter thickness from the approved project requirements.
  3. Use the rounded ready-mix quantity as a starting point for a supplier quote.

Worked example: Example: a 30 ft × 12 ft driveway at 5 in depth contains about 5.56 yd³ before allowance; the tool rounds the 10% order to 6.25 yd³.

Assumptions and limitations

  • Ready-mix quantity is rounded up to the next 0.25 yd³.
  • 60 lb and 80 lb bag yields are planning assumptions of 0.45 ft³ and 0.60 ft³ respectively; confirm the selected product label.
  • Truck-load equivalent assumes a 10 yd³ planning load, not supplier delivery capacity.
  • Waste is applied to net volume before purchase rounding.

Common questions

Does this set driveway thickness?
No. Thickness, reinforcement, base, drainage and local requirements must be independently verified.
Does it deduct irregular sections?
Use average width for a simple preliminary estimate, or divide complex geometry into separate sections.
