How this calculator works

Use landscape bed length, average width and compressed depth to estimate bulk mulch volume and whole-bag purchase needs.

1. Measure the finished bed length and average width.
2. Use the desired installed mulch depth, not the loose bag depth.
3. Add a practical allowance for settling, curves and irregular planting edges.

Worked example: Example: a 12 ft × 10 ft bed at 3 in depth contains about 1.11 yd³ of mulch. With 10% settling and edge allowance, the purchase quantity rounds to 1.3 yd³.

• Landscape bed geometry is treated as rectangular using average width.
• Mulch depth represents installed compressed depth.
• Bulk order is rounded to the next 0.1 yd³ after allowance.
