Laminate flooring calculator
Laminate floor coverage and whole-carton quantity with stated waste.
Calculator result and formula
Laminate cartons to order: 14 cartons
Formula: L × W × (1 + waste) ÷ stated coverage
Formula ID: FLOOR-LAMINATE-001 · Version 1.0.0.
Inputs
- Floor length: Finished laminate floor length Default: 18.
- Floor width: Finished laminate floor width Default: 14.
- Carton coverage: Coverage stated on the selected carton Default: 20.
- Waste factor: Allowance for cuts, pattern and spare stock Default: 10.
How this calculator works
This calculator converts measured floor area and an explicit waste allowance into whole laminate-carton quantity using selected-carton coverage.
- Measure finished length and width.
- Enter the carton coverage shown on the actual selected product.
- Use a visible allowance for cuts, pattern, room geometry and spare stock.
Worked example: Example: an 18 ft × 14 ft floor is 252 ft². With 10% waste and 20 ft² cartons, it rounds to 14 cartons.
Assumptions and limitations
- Coverage should use the selected manufacturer's product label or quoted net coverage.
- Waste is added before whole-unit purchase rounding.
- Complex layouts, seams or patterns can require a higher documented allowance.
Common questions
- Does it include underlayment?
- No. Calculate underlayment separately because roll coverage and overlap requirements differ.
- Can I deduct fixed furniture?
- Make exclusions deliberately in your final measured takeoff if they are material to the project.
